Rothenburg ob der Taub!!!

Date - ...!

Rothenburg on the Tauber river (there's more than one Rothenburg in Germany) is considered the most original medieval cities in Germany.  It's also one of the high points on the Romantic road between Wurtzburg and Ulm.  This is another one of the places that we could never get enough of. After our first trip we always brought our guests here and arranged for a room at the Reichs Kuechenmeister.

The Reichs Kuechenmeister was definately our favorite hotel in Rothenburg. It was only about one hundred feet from the town square, every room was different and incredibly decorated, and the food was beyond compare. Thus the hotel name translated, Kings Master Chef.

The Romantic Road

November 1998 was our first trip to Rothenberg. While there, we toured the town, visited the shops including the most incredible Christmas shops, and toured the criminal museum. And if this wasn't all enough, we had dinner in Hell (Zur Holl). Zur Holl contains the oldest structure in Rothenburg, the well. The well dates back to 900 AD and can be viewed on the way to the bathrooms.

The old town itself is still a completey walled city....

On our second trip in December 1999, we were traveling to southern Germany with our friends Judy and Kelly. We spent the two days before Christmas in a Christmas wonderland. We were able to walk the entire wall around the city, went Christams shopping, and went on the walk of the Night Watchman. On our first night we had dinner at Zur Holl, but due to our desire to go on the walk of the Night Watchman, we weren't able to stay for the special dessert that the owner had prepared. Not wanting to miss out, we told him we would be back after the tour. Upon our return, the resturaunt was full and our hearts sunk with the thought of not getting to have some of his special dessert. As we were standing in the entry, the owner spotted us and led us to the table he was still holding for us. Only in Europe could this happen! After taking our seats at the table we noticed the Night Watchman enter looking for a seat. With a quick wave of our hands in the air he was soon joining us for dessert and schnaps. What a night to remember.

On our second evening we had a special Christmas Eve dinner at our hotel. It was everything you would think a traditional Chrismas dinner would be. From the roasted goose to the closing drinks, it was another night that we will remember forever. On Christmas morning, Eddie couldn't help but get up, have a cup of coffee and be the first person to put foot prints across the fresh snow in the town square.

On our third trip, we brought Mom and Dad Hackstaff along on their way to Southern Germany. ...
